Krater, Fan Art.

Hello.

The Swedish game compay Fatshark is making a cool game due to 2012.
It's called "Krater" and is taking place in a post apocalyptic Sweden, can't get cooler then this!

I got very inspired by the lore I read over at their forum, so I did these two concepts/fan art.

Back to basics!

I felt the urge to do some more observation paintings rather then elaborated paintings that takes a lot of time.
Kind of going back to the basics and study stuff, there's still a lot to learn.
So here I did a value study from a pic shot by my dearest, taken this summer.

I had to squeeze my eyes a lot while looking at the reference, this helped me see the values big shapes and biggest contrast, even though in this picture the contrast is very obvious. But it also helped me block out the color a bit so I could translate the color into a value.

I think and hope this approach will help me in my plain air painting, where values are very important to nail down.

More to come soon!
Cheers.

New website/portfolio!

I've collected my best stuff and made a portfolio out of it, check it out at www.carloslundhall.com!

Also I'm searching for a work placement as a 3D-Character artist at game studios all over Sweden!
So if you know somebody who's looking for, or if YOU are looking for a talented 3D-artist to work for you, for free (!), for six months, contact me! ----> carlos.lundhall@futuregames.se

Doodles

Some recent doodles, done while taking a pause from all the 3D work.
Also testing out some new photoshop tools, like the lasso tool technique.

And here's some concepts for the Brawl contest over at gameartisans.org, I never got further than a simple 3dmesh based on the third concept. It's some different takes on Necro from the Street Fighter games.

Small update, blocking the model up

Most of the model is now blocked out, so now I will tweak the proportions to get it all right.
After that it's time to start the high res cloth modeling, funny stuff!

Fan Art, Dust Tactics

Zup!

The ogre is now almost finished, I put it the hands of a good friend and classmate so he can rig it, he will then animate it and I will just pose the ogre and do a final render.

So until that is done I'm starting out a new project, that follows the curriculum of my school.
Right now we have ten weeks to specialize on one subject, and mine will of course be modeling, more exact character modeling.

Once again I don't want to waste time doing concepts first, so I choose one of my favorite games Dust Tactics as my inspiration.
The plan is to do one model, and then turn that model into different characters just tweaking the textures and some minor remodeling.
For that purpose Dust Tactics with its squad of soldiers suits me very well.
The soldiers in the squads wear almost the same armor, cloth and gear, only thing different is the face and some equipment and weapons.

The whole thing will take about five weeks, I hope ;).

nuff' said!

Texturing!

Doing some texturing, mainly to the face and torso so far.
Have to get rid of all the seams and do some color correction to get the texture to feel natural.

In da club

WARNING: naked troll! omgz!

I finished the wooden club today, it took way longer to do then I wanted.
But now it's done, and it's nice to have something to compare the rest of the model with.

Still working on the anatomy, but here's where I'm at right now.

3D Char - small update

Some small updates.

I did some placeholders for all the accessories and the hair first, to get a feel of the whole model, the big picture.
Photobucket

After that I went ahead and modeled the belt in Maya.
With the piece of cloth on his left leg I tried a different approach, modeling directly in ZBrush. Wanted to try out both methods to see which one suits me the best, and to be honest I think it does not matter, it depends more on what mood you're in ;).

Next time I hope to show some of the anatomy modeling, he's gonna be strong! Or "jävligt stark!" like we say here in Sweden!

3D Character modeling course

It's been a while since I last updated my blogg, almost a year, omg!
And now it's in English!
Thought the blogg needed some dusting off, and what better way then to show some of the new stuff I'm working on right now.

Second week in to the 3rd semester at FutureGames we've started out doing some character modeling, It's a three week long course, so I'm really exited about this!

We had the choice to do our own concept or to pick someone else's design, I went with the second choice. Picking a pic from my favorite illustrator Alvaro Tapia, showed below.

First of i did a side and front view reference in photoshop and then imported it to ZBrush, to help me get the proportions right.
Photobucket

Next I imported a base mesh made by Nick Succarello, free to use for everyone over at Pixologic.
Photobucket

After that I modified the base mesh to fit the silhouette of my references.
Photobucket

And that's how far i reached in the process. Lots of things to be done.
Yeah! Or "Jä!" As we say here in Sweden.

More to come soon!
